See, the thing about being a too-smart-for-the-room jerk on the Internet is that you want to make sure you actually are smart. It was Erskine Caldwell, not Steinbeck, who wrote Tobacco Road. If you'd actually read it, you might know that there is very little to laugh about in it as written, although the movie largely chose to ignore everything about the book except the title, as movies often do.
I don't know Larry, or Hugo either for that matter, but I don't see how it gains anyone anything to be mean-spirited about another man's fond memories. I don't know what's happened in your life to make these recent unpleasant outbursts more common, but I hope it gets resolved for the better. I can think of several things you've posted over the years that people could have torn into and didn't. More, I can think of times that you were just flat wrong about things and when you were called on it, you threw a grade-A fit about it. Good for Larry for ignoring you. Looks to me like everybody should.
