They wax carhartt coats but I dont know if that would make a problem cleaning the blanket or how heavy it would get. Just google "wax waterproofing coats".
My other thought is you could sew a rain fly for it. Same thing as a tent with the waterproof layer of tent material. Hard to find the material though.
