I just finished harvest today. I had 750 acres of beans, 200 of which were double crop. Some of the double crop were taken by weeds, but the regular beans went in about the time the double crop did. I cut the last of the double crop today and I felt like I was mowing pasture. It was a nice little surprise bonus for the landlord, though. We had a muddy June and I was just in the swing of planting at the June 26 cutoff. Much of what I planted was a 3.9. I planted half Liberty (on resistant ground) and half roundup/STS.
The roundup beans skunked the Liberty I. Areas where there wouldn't have been weed pressure anyway. The Liberty gave a great crop on ground that has been nothing but cab-high ragweed and Palmer for years. I did notice that were were lots of pods on the Liberty, but the roundup had stooled out where the others didn't.
If it wasn't such a pain I would mix and match again because I got good results. I used liquid fertilizer but saw no increase. I had put down granular the fall before not knowing I was adding liquid to that planter. I don't now what to think about that. It was $10K down the drain for the planter add-ons and a bit of liquid. Liquid is so darn expensive. I am still not sure what that looks like for next year. I hate to not use it at all. Maybe it will be for experimental use. Don't know.
There's a cold south wind and a 95% chance of rain overnight and into the next three days. El Niño is here. I feel bad for those who still have a crop in. Except that BTO that's shafting everyone out of their rented ground. He can sit in that mess and cry.
