You have already made two huge mistakes. 1. posting here on public forum. 2. Saying anything to the owner of the dogs. A jury will rule in favor to the dog owner, and use your words against you. These matters have to be conducted quickly, silently, and never spoken of, even to your wife or family, with all evidence never found.
