While I do agree that we should respect the flag, I also think that there is no need to elevate it to such a position as to be untouchable. There should be a happy middle ground that allows it to be a symbol of our country that is available to all without being surrounded by a 400 page rule book of regulations. The REAL value is in what it represents - or at least USED to represent. Seems like every time a spoiler comes along and makes some baseless complaint, the whole country has to bow to the whim of one malcontent. No wonder other countries thing we are goofy. Time to sign off and feed my dog.
