1/2 is way thicker than necessary, I built a blade for our A out of a water heater tank, barely 1/8! And I used it to push some dirt at times, and it held up well. Ours was 6 feet wide and about 20 inches high, with about 4-5 inches of curvature. The glass lining stayed on the steel so the snow rolled off real nice. We lifted it with the spring assisted cultivator lift, worked good.
