Take the alternator to a good rebuilder and tell them you want a D10AC regulator installed, it is a special regulator not to be confused with the common 1 wire regulator. It changes the whole internal excitation process. It does away with the diode trio and internal wiring is added to excite the alternator from the AC at the rectifier bridge. My 830 Case charges immediately when started at better than 30 A at idle and the Case diesel is a low RPM engine. The regulator is easily obtainable , just Google it and many hits will come up.
