Story about $2 bills. Terre Haute is a city where many factories have moved out of town. If a business tries to set up shop here, there is always opposition and very few move in, yet people complain about lack of jobs. Politicians complain about decreasing property tax revenue.
Long before I moved to Terre Haute in the 60's to go to college, there were many rail yards in town. Yep people complained about trains blocking traffic.
Well one of the rail yards decided to pay their employees with $2 bills to show everyone just how much they contributed to the local economy. He got his point across.
Even decades later, the local people want to run the trains out of town. On the edge of town is a Grain elevator which ships grain via RR. If some had their way, they would run it out of town too.
