my neighbor has a ferguson to35. 6 volt pos ground. generator has been checked ok. the old vr started pegging at 30 on the ammeter gauge. Put a new one on and the same thing. put the old (don t think it is the original) one back on the tractor. I took my volt meter to check the volts and it will read over 8 volts. But,,,if you tap the vr several times, the ammeter will go back to a normal reading and the volt meter will say 7 volts charging. what is wrong if he has to keep tapping the vr to make it read normal? I m not sure if the ammeter goes back to reading high(30) by itself but after shut off and restarted it reads high again.
