Bruce, Looks like I got run over before I could reply, but the advice is good. Get their phone number on their website (SS Badger) and give them a call for answers to your questions. They are very helpful.
You can enter the US at Sarnia, then head west on interstates to Grand Rapids, then NW to Ludington. Ferry leaves Ludington at 9am if I recall correctly. You gain an hour going west across the lake so you arrive in Wisconsin at noon.
Traffic in Michigan can get heavy near metro areas, but once you get west of the lake you can sit back and enjoy a nice drive.
If you stay in Ludington the night before you ride the ferry, there is a nice restaurant on the east side of town on hwy #10 called "Scotties".
I hauled a Cockshutt across the lake in late May....the lake was still very cold and we were glad to have insulated jackets. Take something with you to keep warm just in case. You can leave port in very warm air, then you can hit the cold stuff a mile out. It is warm inside the ferry, but I enjoy sitting outside near the fantail to watch the water.
When are you going?
Where are you headed?
I have great short video of my trip, but only know how to email it to you.

It is also very apparent that these folks are getting a lot of very poor and often very dangerous advice fro
