Haven't seen a watermelon spill, but do have a watermelon story. A fella came from Texas to Alamogordo, NM, with a semi-load of watermelons. I stopped and bought a couple watermelons and looked into the trailer. He had loose hay about 3 ft. deep the full length of the trailer to cushion the melons on the haul.
I told him that grass hay was a valuable commodity in that area; that the hay that he hauled in was almost as valuable to horse owners as the melons he brought in. He hurriedly made a sign to tell people that he had grass hay for sale as well as the melons!.
