Your associate may be pulling your leg too. Unless he's living like Robinson Caruso I'll bet he fires up that generator more than he's letting on. People I know with 'retirement' homes always seem to be running power tools, burning floodlights at night, etc. I doubt if he can run a 240v well pump or water heater all day on wind/solar.
