Dinner was the big meal of the day so when instead of it being the big meal lunch became a holdover meal and the big meal started comming in the evening so that is when supper became dinner and the bedtime snack if things followed up true then the bedtime snack would be supper but term supper was just droped in faver of small meal at noon instead of the main meal at noon because in your pail you could not carry a hot full meal. The more that started carring the pail the more noon became lunch.
