Ever have to USE a safety chain? I did!! I just happened to be heading into the big city to pick up a car for a friend. As we proceeded along the interstate, for whatever reason, the receiver came loose from the hitch, and the dolly we were pulling started going crazy. I immediately saw something wrong in my mirror, and immediately headed for the shoulder to get things under control. Safety chains saved the day, damage was minimal, and the receiver (installed by the leasing company) was re-inserted with a makeshift clevis pin. Found a trailer supply place in the city and replaced the missing hardware.
As to the stupid part, I agree with this one for sure.
