Sounds like your first alternator was a single wire and now you have a 3 wire. On the plug with 2 wires you should see a #1 and a #2. The #2 wire goes to the big charge stud on the alternator it self and that is the sensing wire and the other one the #1 goes to the ignition side of the coil or some other such switched battery hook up. You will also need a diode or ballast resister or small light bulb in line with that #1 wire or you may not be able to shut the engine back off due to alternator feed back
