First off before you cut any thing etc what model do you have. The 800 is the series and the model will tell us what transmission you have., If it is say an 840 then forget the tiller it will just bounce on top of the ground. If it is the 850 or 860 it may work. The 840 has 4 speeds forward while the 850/60 have 5 speeds. As for cutting the shaft some shafts are easy to cut others you need to grind/cut/weld
