I have a 2005 Jeep Liberty with the Dodge 3.7 V6 (with 85,000) that they also used as the base engine in the full size pickups. Runs OK and gets the usual 20MPG mileage but I have noticed everytime I change the oil (at 3000 miles) I am getting a noticable amount of metal filings in the pan. Not a lot, but enough that when I pour the pan you can see metal debris that has settled to the bottom. Is it normal or is this engine eating a timing chain or timing sprocket(s)? I pointed it out to my son then we changed the oil in my old Farmall 350 (only had about 40 hours but a full year of use) absolutely no metal shavings from the 58 year old engine.
