I kind of think he's out of luck. Best case is he could prove the buildings belong to him and from there either take them down or try to have the sellers buy him out or somehow compensate him for the buildings upon a sale.
I've seen families with property owned by multiple owners/family members. It's a bad deal. Lots of strife, families ripped apart - not worth it IMHO.
The farm I make hay on is my Dad's. I have a brother and sister. We get along great, hope it stays that way forever. For me - NOTHING on that farm is worth dividing the family over. But I also work to keep it that way. I own my own equipment outright and will not erect a permanent building. A metal carport type building that can be taken down is the limit. I want to own what I use and should the need arise, be able to truck it down the road in a matter of days - worse case.
