There's an old saying, "Use it or lose it". It refers to something else, but I think it applies to driving skills as well.
I'm 80, and it infuriates me when members of the medical profession treat me like a doddering old geezer who only wants to be comfortable for what little time he has left.
If I have a physical ailment, I want it fixed so I can get on with my life.
I checked into a local hospital for a colonoscopy a couple of months ago. The nurses kept asking me if I was able to stand by myself. I assured them that I had mounted and balanced a set of tires on my van the day before. Then, after the procedure went well, the doctor that did it said at my "advanced age" I shouldn't need another one unless symptoms indicated it. Sheesh!
