Ford/Ferguson recomended 90W GL-1, so-called "straight mineral oil" in the transmission/hydraulic/differential sump of the 9N tractor when it was designed in the 1930s due to the brass/bronze parts in the hydraulic pump.
Both Ford and MF continued to recommend 90W GL-1 oil in the sump of 9/2/8Ns and similar MF models with the pump in the sump for many years thereafter but no longer do.
GL-1 90W (mineral oil) is still available but few stores stock it these days and I doubt if it is available in quarts.
Oils have improved enormously since the 1930s. I use the CNH pourable, high EP oil in steering boxes and rotary cutter gearboxes that are prone to leak but any good GL-5 90W, 85W90, 85W140, etc., will be fine in your steering box.
If you insist on GL-1, buy a 5 gallon pail and you will have enough for your self and all of your friends and neighbors for the rest of your lives.
