Put 15-40 or 10-30 or 10-40 in it and don't worry. They aren't fussy. The one thing I would watch is if the previous owner used 'old age' non-detergent oil in the engine. A 'new age' detergent oil will start cleaning up the gunk the non-detergent oil leaves behind and will plug the filter quicker than normal till it's completely cleaned out like it should be. Maybe the New age oil he talked about is 5-20 or 5-30, good for new cars but not good for tractors that run loose like the two bangers.
I thought the first numbered series tractors came out in 53. Could be wrong.
