Lemme see if I can make this make sense... For something light-duty like that, you could mark a level line around the room at the height of the shelf. Drill, then run lag bolts into the studs, making sure they were level and square to the wall. Leaving a few inches of the bolt sticking out. Cut the heads off the lags. Drill corresponding holes in the edge of the shelf material. Slip the shelf over the exposed bolt shanks. If you are concerned it might come loose, you could put a dab of epoxy in the holes first.
