My brother started farming over 40 years ago with Oliver and was a die-hard Oliver man. When the Oliver name went belly up, he switched over and became a die-hard White man. The local Agco store also sells New Holland combines and he has had many NH combines over the years. So when he walked into the Agco store, everybody knew him by name. But the local Agco dealers around here are something to be desired. It also didn't help that one of his White tractors tore out a rearend and then tore it again exactly a year later and the dealer wouldn't stand behind it in any way, shape or form. So he has switched over to JD. While the machinery hasn't really been any more reliable than Agco, the local JD store will bend over backwards to help him out and try to make him happy. So they probably have a customer for life now.
Another story that my brother told was when he had Agco and NH equipment. He had taken a break while he was combining with his NH combine and two of the local BTO farmers (who farm with John Deere) had stopped in and the three of them were shooting the breeze. The local Agco salesman happened to be driving by and also stopped and talked to the BTO farmers, even though he had never sold them anything. The Agco salesman opens up his ice cooler that was on the back of his pickup and offers the two JD BTO guys a beer and yuks it up with them. While this salesman had known by brother for decades, he didn't offer my brother a beer. (Note to the equipment salesmen on this site: Keep your customers happy!) The Agco salesman yukked it up with the JD BTO farmers, but didn't even acknowledge that my brother was there. While the lack of a beer wasn't that much of a loss of a gift, the salesman really wasn't using too much of his brain that day.

Today's Featured Article - History of the Nuffield Tractor - by Anthony West. The Nuffield tractor story started in early 1945.
