I think you underestimate the power in play there. And, IIRC from the magazine article I read on this, when that does happen the pump switches to the 2nd stage just like on a gas engined pump and works that way. If it's really too much the over pressure circuit cuts in and the ram stops. I forget the exact numbers but that 1 horse power on the treadmill works out to 6 or 8hp at the shaft.
