You should be OK. Most of the horror stories about ether are from folks that don't know how to use it. Using ether to start is kinda like drinking whiskey, used in moderation it's fine but in excess is not good. I've got an old IH that came from the factory with ether injector. I use it in the winter because I don't have electricity at that farm.
