you keep messing with it like this and you will wreck your new pump yet. you need a pressure gauge so you can set the relief and I will take a guess and set it at 2000#s. If you can kill the tractor you are making pressure and blocking it somehow but turn that relief to tight and rev the tractor a little and the pump will split. something isnt plumbed right yet or cylinders would be moving. a double acting control will work just fine but tee the port to your return so the oil has somewhere to go.if you just plug the port when you push the lever you will ride the relief valve and wear it out also hard on the pump.
