yes the system must have a pressure relief valve. normally its in the control valve but not always. there are control valves that do not have a relief valve.I am just saying you want to make sure the valve your using has it. I have changed a few valves for guys that built splitters and the cheap valve they used didnt have a relief and one blew the ends out of the cylinder.the other split the pump.
