I pulled into a Port of Entry in Kansas once with a pickup on a trailer.
The officer asked if the pickup on the trailer was for my personal use or for sale. I told him it was for sale.
He replied, "Dang, I wish you would have said it was for your personal use. If it's for sale, I'll have to do a bunch of paperwork and charge you $5.00. (This was in the 1980's). Why don't we start this all over again. Is the pickup on the trailer for sale or for your personal use?"
I said it was for my personal use.
The officer said, "OK, you're good to go".
He either didn't notice or ignored the fact that my trailer was 102" wide. Legal in Nebraska but 6" over width in Kansas.
