Yeah, the "stronger earthy flavor" is kind of a downer for me- many just taste like dirt. The chanterelles in our area have a nice flavor, and I got some morels one time, and they were good. And the little button mushrooms that you get in the supermarket add some flavor to a steak when sauteed. But most of them that my wife brings home from her horse rides in the woods aren't so wonderful. Some she got last year got slimy when cooked, so it was like eating a dirt-flavored slug. A true epicurean delight.
