Get the shot. Dad got shingles three years ago, at 87 years old and it took him down. I didn't think anything would take that man down, but shingles proved me wrong. He recovered to about 75% of what he was before but he never was as good after that. He told us we WILL get the shingles shot and we did. This spring he stumbled and fell and landed in the nursing home mainly because the shingles episode had weakened him.
Marilyn had shingles twice when she was young and it didn't have any lasting affects. First time was during finals in College. She toughed it out and made it through finals. Second time was when we were still young married. She laid in bed a few days and once again toughed it out and went back to work.
