The problem is that it is really hard to measure. You can't streatch a water hose out far enough to do a water level thing. And if you can make some sort of measurement on the Atlantic side, by the time you walk over to the Pacific side, the tides have changed. So it is pretty tough to measure.

I was in the panhandle of Florida a few weeks ago and the GPS deal on the dash shows sea level. It read - 8 to -12 feet in places. I got the heck out of those places!!
