That has happened to me. Would use a points file. Or if using emory cloth run a little piece of shop cloth to get the grit out. Sometimes if still no spark, Touch a screw driver to the rotor shaft open and short the points a few times. Should see a spark. I know this sounds like it is out of Ripley's believe it or not.
