My experience with hardner in alklyd enamel is the paint doesn't fade nearly as quick. With clear coat with uv protection using a catalyst the shine is more and much easier to obtain, but will chip much easier. The "better" the paint and clear coat the easier it chips. The old imron of past was in my opinion the best paint ever. A car I painted 20 years ago still looks like it just came out of the paint booth.
