Use a file to scratch the shaft. If it is hard the file will not cut into it. If it is not hard, you might be able to weld the key in place, on the side that is chipped out. First put the key in place, then slide the coupler over it to be sure the key is seated properly. Remove the coupler and then fill the chipped out area with weld. DO NOT get it really hot.
