GPS maps are notoriously unreliable when it comes to secondary roads. That said, are you sure there isn't a road easement across your property? If the alleged "road" is on a section line, it's almost a certainty that an easement existed, although the county could have abandoned it. In most states there's a formal process for abandoning a road easement; just because the county never maintained a road on the section line doesn't mean it has abandoned its easement.
