Trying to help a friend. After three years the grass in his lawn is still struggling. The coverage of lawn grasses is only about 60% with the remaining bare soil. It is very uniform - clumps of grass circled by bare soil. Most of the grass looks like Bluegrass, but I am not sure as the grass is forming clumps. I wasn't for sure if Bluegrass is a "clump forming" grass. Actually I don't think it is. The blades are very thin. There are some spots with other grasses with a wider blade and these spots are actually somewhat flurishing. I know these spots are Bluegrass. Any ideas what this narrow bladed grass that forms "clumps" is????? The soil is somewhat poor - little organic matter/too much sand. The clumps are very noticeable and make the yard uneven and even hard to ride a riding lawn mower over. This is in North East Iowa and that area has had ample rainfall. Spring nitrogen has been applied by a lawn care company. I guess my main concern is what for sure this clump forming narrow bladed grass might be. Maybe this specific grass doesn't spread very fast by its roots. Thanks.
