Trimec or brush killer works somewhat on clover. about 2-3oz/gallon plus some surfactant. It is 2-4D with dicamba and another salt of something. Not any more expensive than glyphosate(Roundup) and does not kill grass. Check the cincentration percentage on the jug.
My yard needs it right now, and I have also heard that Fall is the best time to try and kill clover. 'They' also say that clover likes compacted soil, so the more you can aerate etc. will help.
