When I was at Ft Knox a guy I worked with there had bought a house on 5 acres. He got a calf to raise. He and his wife decided that they could just feed it the same grain mix they were feeding their horses. Right before he had it butchered I went and helped him build a deck (meaning I built it with his help, he wasn't very good with a saw and hammer). When He got his meat he invited us over for a BBQ. That was the worst tasting beef I ever had. He showed me the grain they had been feeding. Was really poor quality and the producer had coated it with I think molasses to make it palatable.
We have a grocery store near us, small town, closest next one is 16 miles from that store. Lot of elderly folks in that town that just have to ability to go much further than in town. All of the prices on everything is crazy and their meat looks terrible. I can go to another small town and the store is much cheaper with much better looking meat. The difference is the 2nd one is a chain of 7 or 8 stores owned by one guy.

Jon called me to help him discover why his tractor wouldn't start
