Now as to the rise in prices, do you remember the drought of 2012? Hay crops nationwide failed. Corn rose past $7 /bu. and many cattlemen had to sell entire herds or let them starve. Sad thing about cattle raising is that once you jump out, it's next to impossible to jump back in. Now 2 years later, the herd population is as lower than it's been since WWII. So the cattlemen that survived can get a better price. Call it free-market or call it supply and demand. Bottom line is, there's fewer cattle now, so beef prices will go up. There's an old saying, "Never complain about farmers when your belly is full."
