George, you might look to another carrier who will pay Verizon, or anybody, to use their towers. My carrier, US Cellular, is happy to pay other companies for my use of their towers.
When I make an annual Michigan trip, I get no US Cellular towers until I get back to Va. My cell reception is as good as anybody's on the entire trip.
Verizon believes they are so large with so many towers that they don't need to offer this service. As a consequence, my area is well-known as a dead spot for Verizon customers. But a dead spot only because they won't pay to use the US Cellular towers that do provide coverage.
I was in negotiations with Verizon to put a tower on my other mountain peak. When they bought Alltel, they stopped tower construction here. Verizon customers lose, until I explain that there are good alternatives. You have to live near a US Cellular tower to be able to get an account, but for us it is the answer everywhere we travel.
