I would like to know what the recommended viscosity of oil is for a John Deere Model 40 U (vertical twin cylinder model). The service manual says to use 10 weight oil in the winter and 20 weight oil in the summer, but I understand there are better options today. I've heard recommendations to use non-detergent oils. Does this matter? This is an old tractor that may have much gunk and other deposits.
