It's a measurement accuracy/rounding issue. (In a non-lab environment it's not easy to accurately measure fractions of an ounce of motor oil). And the oil fractions given to the nearest full ounce ARE reasonably close to the ideal 50 to 1:
- For 3 oz in 1 gallon, the actual ratio works out 42.7:1 - For 5 oz in 2 gal, it's 51.2:1 - And for 13 oz in 5 gal, it's 49.2:1
