gas for 2 cycle

Used the gas intended for the chain saw in my tractor during a snow storm and now want to mix up a new batch so I can cut wood. On the side of the oil bottle it says ratio gas to oil for 1 gal of gas 3 ounces of oil, 2 gal gas 5 oz, 5 gal of gas 13 oz of oil, how come the more gas the less oil? Seems to me for 5 gals it should be 15 oz of oil. I'm mixing 50:1 At 16:1 & 32:1 the ratio stays the same but not at 50 or 100:1 What gives? Gene

It's a measurement accuracy/rounding issue. (In a non-lab environment it's not easy to accurately measure fractions of an ounce of motor oil). And the oil fractions given to the nearest full ounce ARE reasonably close to the ideal 50 to 1:

- For 3 oz in 1 gallon, the actual ratio works out 42.7:1
- For 5 oz in 2 gal, it's 51.2:1
- And for 13 oz in 5 gal, it's 49.2:1

I'd not worry about it....

With my chain saws and at an elevation of 9000' I use just a bit less oil to keep them from smoking. Same chain saw for 30 years.
