I'm all for what people do in the privacy of their own homes is their business. But when people become a public nuisance or a hazard to others it becomes time to stop. Most people are not malicious, just thoughtless. In my encounters with the law I have to admit I deserved the tickets that I received and a lot more was overlooked. I suspect there is a lot more to most of these stories as well.
As for stupid cop stories, my favorite is watching a young county deputy chase a neighbor for a half mile for running a stop sigh with a corn picker. There was no traffic and over a quarter mile of visibility in all four directions. Technically the deputy was correct, but the siren and all those flashing lights on the squad car and the picker created quite a spectacle that otherwise calm quiet evening. Even the cattle watched what was going on.
