For some time I have been getting some pain and numbness on the out side edge of the ball of one foot and also one toe on the same foot. When I finally took a look I found a big black area on the bottom of a toe and a small one on the side of the ball. I got an appointment with the foot doc, who told me that I had chill blains, whereas just before the appointment I had it attributed to a pair of boots that I wore only occasionally. For about a six weeks I wore only looser shoes and sneakers, and kept myself on light duty and I finally have it pretty well healed up. Yesterday I went and got a new pair of Keen brand "metatomical high-tech" work boots in a wider size. Moral of the story is don't assume that your feet are going to remain the same size until you die.
