Here in IL we call it pop. A few years back we were ordering dinner at a restaurant in TN. When the waitress asked what I wanted to drink, I asked what kind of pop they had. She had that deer in the headlights look. I said oh, you might call it soda here. Then she said, oh, you mean Coke. I asked what else they had. She said we have Pepsi, Mountain Dew..... I said, it's unusual for a restaurant to have both Pepsi and Coke. She said, no, the only kinds of Coke we have are Pepsi products. Don't try to explain to a southerner that Coke is a brand of soda pop, and that not all soda pop is Coke.
Another time I went out for pizza with some friends in MO. I asked the waitress what kind of pop they had. She looked at my friends. One of them quietly said soda.
Anyway, I'm a NuGrape Soda guy. Only one store carries it locally and they don't always have it. I like Dog-N-Suds Root Beer, and Dog-N-Suds Orange Cream.
