Nobody I know calls a face cord a face cord. Everyone sells wood by the face cord and calls it a cord. I'd never even heard of a face cord till I got up here in the flat lands. We sold a full cord of wood where I lived, never broke it up into face cords.
Anyway, if he meant full 4x4x8 cords of wood then it's up to him to make it clear. Otherwise it seems likely he meant face cords.
