One of my friends put a Farmall "M" engine on an old IH dozer. Seems like the M starter was behind the flywheel, and the dozer starter was in front. He wound up with two starters, but no hole to mount one in. He rigged up a chain drive starter on the back, driving the PTO shaft. It worked pretty slick, but it wasn't something a stranger could climb on and fire up without detailed instructions.
A guy I worked with had a Volkswagen Karman Ghia(SP), and he had a nylon strap that he'd wrap around the generator pulley to start it.
