They probably have steel shoes on with calks. or boron. The reason horses can trot down a slick asphalt road and not fall down. Also the reason local people around here don't care for the Amish trotting there horses down the blacktops. They pick the asphalt just like studs in tires, which are outlawed, except for ambulances and other emergency vehicles.
