Been a while since I had to replace the water pump on mine, but I'm sure it was done with the radiator in place. But if you have to pull it, you have to. You're right about the radiator being held in with two carriage bolts on the bottom. If they spin, about all you can do is cut/grind them off, and replace with new when you put it back together.
